Author Interview: S Lucas

Tell us about yourself.

The starting writing was actually a funny story, or at least it is to me. I’ve actually written for years, mostly fanfiction and I really enjoyed doing it. I haven’t written for a while but was helping out authors a lot doing alpha and beta reading and proof reading. One day, my author friend, Kat Blak and I got on the conversation of fanfiction and I said I’d written some a few years ago. She asked if I’d ever thought about publishing them with my own characters. I honestly hadn’t, but I looked back over a few of my M/M Potterverse stuff and thought I’d give it a try. I was thinking I’d use some of the things that happened in those and build a story from it. That’s not what happened, instead I wrote over 50k words for an entirely new story. Whilst it was still M/M, it is contemporary instead. That’s literally how Against the Odds was born.

Tell us about your recent book.

Taming Wrath released December 6 and is part of a series called Sons of Satan. The series is about the seven sons of Satan who are pretty much the embodiment of the seven deadly sins. I was actually nervous about writing it at first, but between the authors we built these amazing realms and characters and I loved writing it. It’s a why choose romance, with what I would say is a high spice level. Enough that I have yet again ended up in the erotica section on Amazon.

Who is your favorite character in your book/series? Why?

That’s like asking a parent which is their favourite child. I love all my characters for different reasons, like I adore Demi from Vampire Kissed cause even though she’s a little traumatised from things that have happened in her past, she still does her best to pull through. Shay in Taming Wrath is a total badass, she’s a fighter and strong and she isn’t shy of getting a little revenge. Franklin Goodman from Defying the Odds has to be one of my favourite guys. He actually shows up in Against the Odds and is the best friend of one of the MMCs, but after that book ended he just wouldn’t go away and wanted his story telling too. He was really on my back about that!

What is your writing process? Show us a day (or week) in the life

I wish I had a process, honestly I’m still winging it at the moment. When I have major costuming projects coming up my day is usually wake up till 12pm doing any and all book stuff whether it’s writing my books, or reviews, doing blog posts and making sure I have posts scheduled and then the rest of my day is the costuming work. Since finishing Taming Wrath I haven’t had much costume stuff to do so I’ve been taking it easy and just writing as and when.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

When I’m not writing I’m actually a seamstress and make a lot of costumes for myself and I also take on projects for other people. I’ve been sewing for well over twenty years now, and attending comic cons all around the UK. I also do proofreading, alpha/beta/arc reading. I also am half of a duo who run a book blog. My life pretty much runs around creative things.

What’s your favorite book / or #1 comfort re-read / or the #1 book you recommend to everyone?

I somehow always end up back at Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series and Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy. I loved both those series and honestly, I could reread them from now until the end of time.
