Author Interview: Brittany Wright
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Brittany Wright. I’m a single mom with two kids. I have been writing since I was six years old. I have been writing professionally for two years. I started writing professionally when I had a story in my head and it wouldn’t go away. Then all the stories flooded. I guess my muse was my ex boyfriend, and the inspiration or motivation hasn’t left me. Random fact: I’m terrified of thunder, and obsessed with owls.
Tell us about your upcoming/recently released book.
Something I’m really inspired and excited about:
My best friend and co-writer, basically the coolest bitch I know, Melanie True and I are doing a PTSD fundraiser for the month of June. Her husband served in the military and we are both strong about mental health awareness. So much that we proclaim we are advocates. Anyways, there will be an auction the first week of June as well as a GoFundMe page for the entire month of June. We will be donating the proceeds from both directly to Camp Hope. Keep an eye out for the fliers for “Give Them Hope” in mid April. Can be found in my Linktree below (end of this post) when it’s updated.
Recently released:
October 2022: A fictional Memoir: Cursed of the Raven, Book 1 in the Caged Bird duet. It’s a fictional account about Ember and her struggles through her marriage. Told by an omniscient third person while she is talking with her therapist. Inspired by my marriage and best friend(s). Spice level, 1- if that? And, I’m excited for book 2 in this duet. (October 2023)
February I released Tragic Peace. It’s about a girl, Raelynn who goes through a tragic situation and has to leave her hometown. She finds out her Gran has passed away and has to return to her hometown. While there, she stops to get her car serviced, and meets four mechanics. They kind of steal her heart and yeah, if I say more, I’ll spoil it. There are trigger warnings, and the spice is probably 3 out of 5 peppers. This one was inspired by the band Black Label Society.
Upcoming. March 13: Trading Worlds: Red Market Exchange – co-written with Melanie True – is about a surgeon, Nadia who makes a deal with an Incubus, Hayden. He strikes one hell of a deal and she has to do a few things to complete it. While going through the process, she and Hayden find a few obstacles to overcome. Spice, maybe 4 peppers. Inspired by a challenge from a reader.
Who is your favorite character in your book/series? Why?
Probably Raelynn or Zack. Raelynn, because she’s a badass and has overcome so much. Zack, because he’s literally a literary Zak Wylde. =)
What is your writing process? Show us a day (or week) in the life.
I work a full time job as a certified nurse assistant. I’m a single mom. When I’m able to write, I make sure my kids are asleep and the house is quiet. I pull out the laptop and I write until I fall asleep.
What keeps you motivated to write?
Lately, my bookish soulmate, Melanie True or my PA, Alyssha Glenn.
What do you do when you’re not writing?
I work or sleep; spend time with my kids or we’re playing with our two huskies.
What subgenres or tropes are your favorites to read?
I read everything but Sci-fi.
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
We have huskies, but I prefer cats. They’re less noisy.
What’s your reading drink and snack of choice?
AM- Bagel and coffee. PM- Pepsi and ice cream.
Where is your perfect reading spot?
In the nook of my sectional.
What’s your favorite book / #1 comfort re-read / #1 book you recommend?
Anything by Anne Rice.
Who or what has had the most influence on you as a writer?
Anne Rice, definitely. Chuck Palahniuk is definitely tied with her.
