Author Interview: Angelica Aquiles
Tell us a little about yourself.
I first started writing in 2021. There was a lack of Latina characters and it was always hard for me to find any books. I found out other readers were having the same problems as I was, so I decided to finally write the characters that have been taking room in my head.
I love sweets, especially brownies, that’s my weakness, and I also love Hot Cheetos. I love sunny weather. I love to swim and I love going out places. I don’t really like staying home, I like to explore and be out in the open.
Tell us about your most recent book.
My next release is called Wicked Succubus; it releases in March. It is the first book in the Reign of Monster series. It’s a Why Choose Romance. It’s Lost Girl (the TV show) meets Dexter. I couldn’t find very many books with a succubus/Latina lead so I decided to write my own.
The final book in my shifter series will be completed in April. It’s a Why Choose Romance. I’m so excited to finish my first series.
Who is your favorite character in your book/series? Why?
One of my favorite characters is Zelyah, she has some of my characteristics. She takes no shit from anyone. She truly is a badass. I hope readers will be able to relate to this character.
My other favorite is Kat. The way she fiercely loves and protects her family, I can relate to her a lot. She’s an older character, she got bitten and turned into a wolf at the age of 32. She goes with it, instead of running away from who she is she learns to embrace who she is now.
What is your writing process? Show us a day (or week) in the life.
I wake up, journal, and then take a shower. My kids wake up and I make them breakfast, I homeschool both kids, and I make TikTok videos in the morning. I make my kids lunch and after my kids have eaten lunch I meditate and get to writing. I stop writing to make dinner and I write some more until nine at night. I put my kids to sleep and try to write again, but by that time I’m usually beat so I get ready for bed.
What keeps you motivated to write?
My readers do! Plus, I absolutely love what I do. I love getting lost in my own world and I hope to bring that to life in my words so readers can experience it too.
What do you do when you’re not writing?
I hang out with my kids, watch TV with my husband although I don’t watch TV much maybe two hours at most everyday and of course READ! I love to read!
What subgenres or tropes are your favorites to read?
Hands down enemies to lovers, I think that’s why I write it. Oh and Fated mates I love it too.
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
I was a dog person my whole childhood but now I think I’m more of a cat person although I don’t have any. I do have a dog though.
What’s your reading drink and snack of choice?
Brownies! Just like Zel in Wicked Succubus. I love anything sweet but brownies are my weakness. I love Hot Cheetos and peanut M&Ms.
Where is your perfect reading spot?
My bed. It’s so comfy.
What’s your favorite book or #1 you recommend?
I really love HAVOC by C.M Stunich and Ivy Asher Lost Sentinel Series.
Who or what has had the most influence on you as a writer?
I want to show my kids that you can do what you love for a living. Showing them it’s possible fuels me to keep going. My husband has also been very supportive and it motivates me to never give up.
