Andrew Davies’ writing delivers a charming adaptation with faithful characters, though the pacing could use some work.
Douglas McGrath’s vision of Emma, while arguably faithful as an adaptation, didn’t mesh with mine.
Emma is a long, well-written story of matchmaking blunders and lovable character interactions with charm, wit, and plenty of character growth.

Emma Thompson is a talented screenwriter, delivering a witty, creative adaptation with a lot of heart.
The BBC’s Sense and Sensibility miniseries is a simple and faithful adaptation of a wonderful book.
Sense and Sensibility is a light, romantic story with plenty of comedy, a varied cast of characters, and unexpected twists. If you’re looking for your first — or next — Austen novel, I recommend this.
The Northanger Abbey movie will probably disappoint book fans, but is still a charming piece of entertainment.
